13/10/10 - Autumn Term Starting Notes
Hi Anyone, this is a post about this website itself and other student led activities in the coming year.
Firstly design&interaction:
- Should this site still exist?
- How can this site stay relevant if it should exist?
- If not what reasons are given for wanting it to end? and should something else exist?
- Who will work on it?
Secondly Book Club:
James White has been given the responsibility of the Book Club and is going to continue the club after the 26th October Draft hand-in of Context. He is emailling people who have expressed an interest, but anyone else is welcome to come to the first meeting. Please email James with an questions:
jaameswhite@gmail.com
Finally the idea of a student activities umbrella group:
There is an idea to create a student run umbrella group that will encourage and support people running smaller groups like the Book Club. We are trying to come up with a suitable platform, perhaps a website. If anyone is interesting in helping out and working on this then please leave a comment on this post.
thanks

08/06/10 - Hand in for Friday 11 June
Hello,
For Friday 11 June you are required to hand in two submissions:
ONE
Is a pdf of your contribution to the publication. You need to focus on what we had discussed and decided to be your contributions. You should think about the visual language you wish to adopt to communicate your material/shop location/process/tips/how to’s etc. Try not to overcomplicate your contribution, but at the same time give it careful consideration.
* Also if there are certain books that you referenced for your contributions please include those too. Simply take a photo of the book and the pages that informed you.
TWO
In a simple text document you are required to email all the resources that you have found useful during your time studying, examples of a resource:
- Books
- Paper distributors
- Fabric stores
- Printers
- Shops (bags, hangers, beads, screws, ingredients, wood etc)
- Websites
- People
- You get the picture…
WHERE
Email everything to 21publication@gmail.com by Friday 11 June. THE CUT OFF IS 17:00 PM GMT
If there are any questions please feel free to email them over to the above address. Rathna and I will be in the upstairs studios tomorrow too.
++++++++
Students that we have spoken to about interviews I will email you all this week. There will also be a separate blog post with information on the sort of help/teams we need with the publication.
Well done with the shop,
K

25/05/10 - amazing SPOT!
so a couple of weeks ago, Margot kinda mentioned this guy who sold bags on commercial road.
THIS IS THE SHOP AND IT’S AMAZING. many thanks to Margot.
Alice and I made a trip down and it was SO DOPE. browsing is not a verb that exists in this shop because there is no room to move. the man who works there is a laugh and he’s very helpful.
sadly, it sounds like the mean shoreditch rent people want to hike up his rent which means he might go out of business. we can’t let this happen! his family has run that business there since 187!
everyone go and buy his bags! they’re so ridiculously well priced and he also has amazing stuff like sale note pads, stickers, labels etc. bagging your product in a fun bag is a good solution to packaging AND he’s a nice man to have a chat with.
it’s really easy to find, just pop in with a 10 pnd note and you’ll leave with hundreds of RAD bags!
I’ve made 2 trips in a week, i’m already hooked.

across the street from Commercial Tavern, very accessible!
oh right! pricing!
first receipt i bought 200 bags and 30 stickers
second receipt i bought 100 bags

25/05/10 - csmpopup.com part III
So an actual website is up right now. Looks good to me, please leave feedback about any errors or problems.
if you have a good picture of your making and/or process and/or something project and interesting [no boring final product photoshoots] that you want in the slideshow then please resize to 600px wide and post on your blog with the tag csmpopup.com_slide and I’ll add them in…

24/05/10 - Guest List
Hey everyone, today we managed to cut and fold 800 invitations!

I know most of you couldn’t help so now I set you a new task, be our PRs.
Get the address of people to send the invitations for the shop opening.
Be it relevant design studios, not so relevant studios or just people you like. Remember, it’s slow mail, we need the full address. You can start by checking online the address of your favourite studios, designers, bloggers, writers, mothers, anything.
Then copy and blog with the tag popup_guestlist.
“If you could all do this as soon as possible (ie TONIGHT) that would be fab!” Rachel
The opening will be on the 1st of June from 5pm to 11pm.
Thanks, Nuno

23/05/10 - Media Library memory!
Some of you are saying you’ve run out of memory to upload pictures for your blog.
If you aren’t already, you need to be saving your images for web.
1. open image in photoshop
2. Image>Image size> change resolution to: 72. Under pixel dimensions, change the width or height to the exact size you need: for example 600px wide (width of blog post). Click OK.
3. File>Save for Web & Devices and then save as a jpeg at medium or high quality. This will make the file size miniscule.
If you save all your pictures for web, then your media library quota should be more than enough.
If you have already used up your quota and can’t upload anything else, you might consider signing up for an account at photobucket.com (a free image hosting service)
